Someone's knocking... two knocks... it can't be anyone else... Mike... never fails.

I came running, of course, though my human knows me by now and held onto the box tightly this time (last time I nearly knocked it out of his hands in the excitement). Mike stuck around chatting for a bit and I got my usual dose of cuddles. When he left, my human opened the box.

 
 
 
 

Inside were two padded harnesses

one sky blue (mine) and one pink (Linda's, obviously). At first I sniffed it suspiciously — everything new deserves inspection. But the moment they put it on me for our walk... something changed. Before, the second I smelled something interesting, I'd pull with all my might and my human would practically go flying behind me. Now I still pull (I'm young, what can I say), but the harness has a kind of "cushion" that keeps me from choking and keeps my human's arm from hurting. Everybody wins.

in her size with matching pink, she walked as calm and elegant as ever, as if she'd had that harness her whole life. Me, with mine, I'm still learning my manners, but at least now all three of us make it back from the walk in one piece.
